PS Stars Loyalty Program Defects and Controversies

According to Gamerant, recently, some PlayStation players have discovered serious flaws in the PS Stars loyalty reward program, which has led to some users being unable to complete challenges and expressing dissatisfaction. PS Stars is a loyalty program launched by Sony in 2022. By purchasing games and completing specific challenges, users can earn points for redeeming digital collectibles and selected games.

However, since its launch, this program has repeatedly caused controversies. In June 2022, the PS Stars service was offline for several weeks. Sony neither explained the reason nor provided any compensation, which made some players dissatisfied. In August 2023, Sony announced the modification of the terms of use of PS Stars, shortening the validity period of points from 24 months to 12 months. And it was clearly stated that from March 2025, PS Plus subscriptions will no longer earn points.

This news also triggered dissatisfaction among players. Recently, some users posted in the community and pointed out that there seems to be a loophole in the challenge mechanism: A challenge task of PS Stars requires players to purchase “GT7”, “The Last of Us Part I” and “Crash Bandicoot N. Sane Trilogy” to earn points, but players who already own these games cannot complete the challenge. Many players are dissatisfied with this and think it is unfair treatment of users.

In the discussion, some players think that “at least digitally owned games should count.” Some players also say that “PS Stars is to induce users to make irrational consumption.” However, some players also say that the inability to obtain points for PS Stars purchase challenges may simply be due to the sluggish response of the PSN system.
