According to Sina Technology citing IT Home news, on December 20, automotive media AutoEvolution published a blog post reporting that Tesla’s driverless taxi Cybercab can be controlled by a controller similar to a gamepad. When the Petersen Automotive Museum was displaying the Tesla Cybercab, it was revealed that the controller uses a controller similar to a gamepad and is connected to the vehicle’s computer via a wired connection to control the Cybercab to reach the designated display location.
The Cybercab on display this time does not have wheel covers, exposing its unique braking system. This system is similar to the calipers of the Model 3 Performance and seems to use rear brakes on all four wheels. The brakes on the rear axle are painted red. In addition to the wired control method inside the vehicle, the controller can also control wirelessly from outside the vehicle, mainly used for manual intervention when the vehicle encounters special circumstances. The Tesla Cybercab is designed for full autonomous driving and there is no steering wheel or pedals inside. Therefore, wireless control is more practical and has a lower cost than dispatching field personnel every time. The Tesla Cybercab is estimated to start public road testing in the first quarter of 2025. In the initial stage of testing, the Cybercab still needs to be equipped with a safety driver to ensure the safe operation of the vehicle.
